Commissioned by the State of Colorado in 1976 as part of Ed’s groundbreaking Black Frontier Spirit series, Eight is Enough is a thrilling tribute to the overlooked Black cowboys who shaped the early rodeo tradition. Often tasked with taming the wildest horses because they were seen as expendable, these riders became some of the most daring and skilled competitors in rodeo history. This dynamic sculpture captures that courage in full motion featuring one horse with all four hooves airborne, the rider dismounting in a perfect eight-second ride. The energy, tension, and craftsmanship in this bronze are nothing short of masterful.

A historic, action-packed work that honors both the skill and sacrifice of Black cowboys—truly a showstopper in any collection.
