Commissioned by the nonprofit Denmark Vesey Memorial Committee, this sculpture tribute honors the patriot and anti-slavery advocates Denmark Vesey and his associates. The memorial features oversized sculptures of Vesey, and his top two lieutenants in honor of the 1822 Slave Rebellion in Charleston, SC. The memorial resides in a large plaza in a City Park adjacent to Citadel University. The memorial features four bronze “Story Boards” telling the story of Vesey’s life, the Rebellion, and activities in the early 1800’s.
