Captain Walter Dyett Statue, Chicago, IL

Commissioned by the City of Chicago, this sculpture grouping features a 7’ figure of Captain Walter Dyett, the director of music for DuSable High School. Captain Dyett taught some 20,000 African American students the art of music, including nearly every great jazz and blues player in our musical history.


This display is accompanied by four monumental granite panels featuring the history of the blues, including The Reason for the Blues, Early Blues Legends, The Ladies of the Blues and the Greatest Blues Legends.
